Facebook: 900 million active users for WhatsApp.

When it was acquired by Facebook in February 2014, IM was claiming 450 million users.

It is fair to records for Facebook. There are some days, we learned that seven people in the world is connected to Facebook Monday, August 24. That day, the social network saw a billion connections. Later, the king of social networks said it had surpassed the 30 million active users in France, just half of the population.

Today, Facebook will rejoice as instant messaging WhatsApp, acquired in February 2014 for a whopping $ 19 billion, claims 900 million active users (who have logged at least once per month to the service), a record. During his redemption, the application had 450 million users ... 100 million users have been earned between April and September.

Thorn in the side of operators

The success of WhatsApp is based on its free, especially in the (many) countries where SMS are still paying. Moreover, the success of the application is a real thorn in the side of the mobile operators with revenues associated with these SMS continue to fall.

Especially since the new version of the application now allows to make voice calls between users (counted from its data plan on 3G / 4G or Wi-Fi free). This important innovation also enhances the attractiveness of the application face Skype or Viber which allow the same.
