Facebook would prepare a virtual reality application

Facebook will almost eyeing the market for virtual reality. The social network has thus seized in 2014 of Rift Occulus for $ 2 billion, and indicated that the virtual reality helmet would be launched early next year. The manufacturer is however refused to communicate on a price. Coupled to a PC, the Oculus Rift could cost about $ 1,500, not 1,000 or less.

The group of Mark Zuckerberg would like to go further with the development of applications of augmented reality. The idea would be, according to the Wall Street Journal, allowing smartphone, video playback "spherical" to change what is perceived by tilting or rotating the device.

Facebook's purpose here would be to easily distribute applications "quasi" virtual reality users to initiate and push, if they are convinced, ultimately adopting the Oculus Rift headset which obviously will go in terms of experience.

At the same time, the social network also working on porting applications on Facebook Oculus Rift technology. Thus the social network announced last February work on developing versions of its apps for the virtual reality environment.

"You realize, when you're inside, you look at the future, and this will become great. On Facebook, you share just the bits from this experience: a photo, a thought, "says product manager of the firm, Chris Cox. With virtual reality, you could "send a more complete picture," he adds.

Apart discuss the development of Facebook applications for the Oculus Rift, the leader showed himself short on detail. No timetable has therefore notably been announced nor for these apps, either for those revealed by the WSJ.

If the virtual reality helmet is primarily intended to videogames, Zuckerberg had indicated that it was also considering applications beyond, particularly in communications, medicine and teaching.
